The collaboration
Copenhagen Health Week and Breatheology
Stig Severinsen teaches conscious breathing through Breatheology, his own platform, and he spends most of his time now coaching and speaking rather than setting records. He has set plenty. Four world freediving titles, a 20 minute breath hold in 2010, and Wim Hof’s under-ice record taken off him the same year.
The other half of the CV is why he is on our programme. A master’s in biology and a PhD in medicine from Aarhus University, which is how one method ends up with Olympic athletes and Navy SEALs on one side, and with veterans living with PTSD and people recovering from illness on the other.
If Stig sent you here, the rate on this page is yours.
- PhD in medicine, Aarhus University
- Four-time world champion freediver
- 20 minutes 10 seconds on one breath
- 10 Guinness World Records
- Fellow of the Explorer’s Club, New York

The science of the breath hold
Most people stop long before their body needs them to.
Stig’s talk is about the gap between the urge to breathe and actually running out of oxygen, which is wider than most people assume. What the body does with a held breath, and what changes when you train it. That same training keeps turning up in elite sport, in military units and in recovery from illness.
He is a scientist before he is a record holder, so expect the physiology first. The records are a good story on their own, and he tells them.

On the Experience Stage
Then you try it yourself
The Experience Stage is where the weekend stops being something you watch. Stig leads a guided breath hold there, the whole room at once, and talks you through every part of it from the stage.
No water and no wetsuit, and no experience needed either. You sit down, you follow him, and you find out how long you can go. Most people surprise themselves.
You stay seated and you stop whenever you want to. And one rule from him that belongs here too: never practise breath holding in water on your own.
Come and try it3 and 4 October · Øksnehallen
He is there both days
Stig is with us across both Summit days, so one ticket covers everything he does. The talk and the breath hold sit on different stages at different hours, and the times land on the programme as it goes live.
Around him, Øksnehallen on Halmtorvet: stages running in parallel, an exhibition floor you can spend a day in, and a calmer room than most expos manage. That is deliberate. Quiet soundscapes, natural light, clean air, food that is actually good for you.
