The science of calm under pressure
About the session
How to train your nervous system for flow, performance and longevity.
What can a cancer surgeon teach us about stress, flow and the nervous system?
Fifty minutes into a complex cancer operation, Dr. Arpit Bansal’s heart rate was 46 bpm and his stress score just 0.3.
Drawing on experiences from both the operating theatre and the ocean, Dr. Bansal explores what happens in the body when we move between pressure and recovery — and why chronic stress, rather than stress itself, is the real problem.
Through the concepts of Red Mind, Blue Mind and the Purple state, he explains the neuroscience behind stress, calm and flow, using live biometrics to show how quickly we can influence our physiological state.
The session ends with a 90-second breath practice and three practical tools you can use to regulate your nervous system, perform under pressure and recover more effectively.
