Why "healthier" almost never means "healthy"

KeynoteImpact StageMINDSOCIETY

About the session

Ask yourself a deceptively simple question: What does “healthy” actually mean? Take a moment to think beyond the familiar labels. Is health an absolute quality, a relative improvement, or a judgement that depends on context? Can we meaningfully discuss what is healthy, let alone disagree about it, if we have not first agreed on the underlying criteria? You may soon discover that the answer is far less straightforward than it appears.

Dr. Alexander OmelDr. Alexander Omel

As a Specialist in Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care Medicine, I'm trained to keep people alive when everything else has gone wrong. But what fascinates me even more is what goes wrong upstream - long before the diseases we spend our days managing at the hospital ever take hold. I think from first principles, I'm driven by logic, and I lean on evolutionary biology to question the health paradigms most people never think to question. I do this in three ways: - As the founder of PrimeLife, an online functional-medicine practice where I work with people one-on-one to rebuild health from the ground up - Through an Instagram presence where I challenge mainstream health narratives and make the science accessible - As the author of Kolesterol-Manifestet (The Cholesterol Manifesto)

One foot inside the system, one foot outside it - and a deep, restless drive to understand human biology at its most fundamental level.
